A real vet, with real behaviour qualifications
The pet behaviour industry is not regulated, so anyone can call themselves a behaviour professional. Dr Channy is a registered veterinarian who has also passed formal college examinations in veterinary behaviour medicine.

Meet Dr Channy
Since 2012, Dr Channy has counselled both pet owners and veterinarians on understanding animal behaviour, and built a practice around the belief that care should be as good for a pet's mind as it is for their body.
Dr Channy (Dr Chantelle McGowan, she/they) has been a veterinarian since 2011 and a pet behaviour counsellor since 2012 - over a decade helping families protect the bond they share with their pets.
Just like people, a pet's behaviour is shaped by how they feel. Getting to the bottom of why a pet behaves a certain way is the key to them being a calm, healthy, happy member of the family, which is why every visit treats emotional wellbeing as seriously as physical health.
Before founding The Calm Pet Vet, Dr Channy was Head Veterinarian at an ISFM-accredited cat-friendly clinic and a Scientific Services Veterinarian for an international pet nutrition company, lecturing on nutrition and behaviour across Australia and overseas. They gained MANZCVS membership in the Veterinary Behaviour Chapter in 2023.

All consults are Fear Free and inclusive of GST. Out-of-hours appointments, travel, prescriptions, medications and pathology testing are quoted separately. We prefer to give you a tailored estimate for your pet's exact circumstances. Travel is charged from $135.
We are a GapOnly clinic
If your pet insurer offers GapOnly, your benefit is assessed on the spot, usually in under 10 minutes. You simply pay the gap - the amount your policy does not cover - and that is it.
Payment plans with VetPay
Payment in full is due at the end of each consult. If that is hard right now, VetPay lets you spread the cost into manageable fortnightly payments, so your pet still gets the care they need.

We travel across Naarm (Melbourne) and Kaurna Country (Adelaide). Mobile GP veterinary services are currently available in Adelaide and South Australia. Veterinary behaviour consultations are available in both South Australia and Victoria, and telehealth is available wherever you are.
Yes - and for many behaviour and follow-up consultations, telehealth is the calmest option of all. Your pet stays completely in their own environment, and Dr Channy can observe how they truly behave at home, which rarely shows in a clinic. Behaviour consultations and follow-ups are available by telehealth wherever you are. In-person home visits run across Adelaide, with regular in-person visits to Melbourne.
As a Fear Free certified, mobile service it costs a little more than a standard clinic GP, but our cost-per-minute pricing is on par with most clinics. We always prefer to give you a personalised estimate for your pet's exact circumstances - travel is charged from $135.
Both. In Adelaide we provide mobile GP care including vaccinations, lump checks, blood and urine tests, dental checks, and senior health checks. In Melbourne our mobile service currently focuses on veterinary behaviour consultations and telehealth.
