Why it works
By the time you reach the clinic, the damage is done
Think about the sequence. The carrier comes out of the cupboard. The cat vanishes under the bed. Twenty minutes of coaxing, then a scruff and a shove, then a car she has only ever ridden in to go somewhere unpleasant. Then a car park, then a room full of dogs, then a stainless steel table.
The veterinarian has not touched her yet and she is already at the top of her stress range. Whatever happens next lands on an animal who has no capacity left to cope with it. That is not a criticism of clinics, who do good work under real time pressure. It is just what the journey does.
Delete the journey and you get a different patient. That is most of the benefit of a mobile vet, and it is the part nobody puts on an invoice.
What changes
Four things a home visit removes
None of this is a promise that your pet will enjoy being examined. It is a much smaller and more honest claim: we take away the parts of the day that were doing most of the harm.
The car trip disappears
For a lot of pets the drive is the worst part of the whole day, not the needle. Remove it and the animal who arrives at the consult is a completely different animal.
No carrier wrestling
Cats in particular are often stressed before anyone has left the house. If getting your cat into a carrier has become a 40 minute battle you both lose, that battle is now optional.
No waiting room
No unfamiliar dogs, no smell of disinfectant and other animals' fear, no queue with a lead wrapped around your legs. Your pet is in the one place they already know is safe.
Time to actually look
We see how your dog rises from lying down on your floorboards, how your cat uses the house, how the stairs are going. That information does not exist in a consult room and it changes the assessment.

What actually happens when we visit
Home visits run longer than a clinic slot, and that is deliberate rather than inefficient. Most clinics book a standard consult at 10 to 15 minutes. Ours run 45 to 60, because the first stretch of it is spent doing nothing at all.
That extra time is the product. It buys the pause where a wary dog decides we are not a threat, the second attempt at a blood sample without anyone getting tense, and the conversation where you get to ask the question you actually came with.
It also means we see fewer patients in a day than a clinic does, which is the honest reason a mobile visit costs more.

You book, and you tell us the awkward parts
How your pet behaves at the vet, what has gone wrong before, whether anyone has been bitten. None of it is held against you and all of it changes how we plan the appointment. If pre-visit medication would help, we sort that out before the day rather than on the doorstep.

We arrive at your door
We knock rather than ring where we can, because a doorbell has usually already started an argument. Your pet stays wherever they are most settled. There is no reception desk, no dog barking through a wall, and no waiting your turn.

Your pet gets to decide we are safe
We sit down and let them come to us. Most of the examination then happens on the floor, on their bed, or on your lap, in whatever position they are already comfortable in. Cats are usually seen wherever they have chosen to sit.

We do the medicine
Vaccination, examination, blood or urine collection, ear and skin sampling, weight and pain assessment. If your pet reaches their limit before we finish, we stop and finish another day rather than push through it.

You get a plan, in writing
What we found, what it means, what happens next, and what it will cost. Results from any samples are phoned through and explained. Nothing is left as a printout for you to interpret alone.
Where we go
Adelaide and South Australia, and nowhere else for GP work
This matters enough to say twice. Mobile general practice care, vaccinations, pathology, skin and ear work, is available in South Australia only.
We travel across Kaurna Country and the Adelaide metropolitan area. If you are further out, ask rather than assume. We would rather tell you honestly that you are outside the range than have you wait for an appointment that cannot happen.
Veterinary behaviour consults are a separate service and cover Adelaide, Melbourne and telehealth Australia-wide. If you are in Victoria and looking for a mobile GP vet, we are not the right service for you and we would rather say so on this page than waste your time.
Being straight about travel
Travel is charged from $135 and depends on where you are. It is a real cost and we would rather you saw it here than found it at the bottom of an invoice.
It buys the vehicle, the fuel, and the hour of the day that is spent driving instead of consulting. If two pets in the same household need seeing, book them together and the travel is charged once.
We are a GapOnly clinic, so if your insurer supports it your benefit is assessed on the spot and you pay only the gap. VetPay is available if spreading the cost helps.
Before we arrive
How to set the visit up well
Ten minutes of preparation genuinely changes how the appointment goes. None of it is complicated.
- Set up the spot you want us to use, with your pet's own bed and a couple of spare towels.
- Have high-value treats ready, and where it is safe to do so, skip the meal before the appointment so food is worth something.
- Put a very anxious or reactive dog somewhere calm before we knock, so the greeting is not the first thing that happens.
- Give any pre-visit medication at the time we tell you, which is usually a couple of hours before, not on arrival.
- Keep other pets and small children in another room for the first part, and bring them in later if it helps.
- Write down your questions. In a longer appointment there is time to get through all of them.

Published in full, which is unusual in this market. You should be able to work out roughly what you are up for before you pick up the phone.

Is it more than a clinic? Yes, and here is why
The consult fee is higher because the appointment is 3 or 4 times longer and there is travel attached to it. Measured per minute of veterinary time, our pricing sits alongside most clinics. Whether that trade is worth it depends entirely on your pet: if the clinic trip is easy for them, it probably is not. If the trip is the thing that has been breaking you both, it usually is.

Mobile vet questions, answered honestly
As a Fear Free certified, mobile service it costs a little more than a standard clinic GP, but our cost-per-minute pricing is on par with most clinics. We always prefer to give you a personalised estimate for your pet's exact circumstances - travel is charged from $135.
There are no guarantees, but being in a familiar, safe space with you present often eases the stress of veterinary care. There is no travel stress, no unfamiliar animals in a waiting room, no unpleasant clinic sights and smells. In a calm setting we are usually able to make more progress than in a clinic.
If your pet needs hospital-level care, surgery or a dental procedure, they will need a clinic. After a home visit we work towards a calm, gradual return to the clinic so your pet can cope when hospitalisation is genuinely needed. We do this while your pet is well and there is no time pressure.
Both. In Adelaide we provide mobile GP care including vaccinations, lump checks, blood and urine tests, dental checks, and senior health checks. In Melbourne our mobile service currently focuses on veterinary behaviour consultations and telehealth.
Before we arrive, set up the area you would like us to use with your pet's favourite bed, some comfort toys, treats and a couple of spare towels. If your pet is very anxious, we may provide medication to give a few hours beforehand - it is far easier to keep a calm pet calm than to settle one in a panic.
